GAME SECURITY

Gaming is one of Kymer’s most popular activities. We play games to have fun.
Winning prizes is fun too.
But nothing takes the fun out of a game faster than when someone absconds with the prizes!

Abscond means to "run off with"
It does not necessarily mean to steal.
Why do we make this distinction?
Because in Kymer, an avatar can only steal game prizes IF YOU LET THEM

GAME SECURITY IN PUBLIC LOCALES

As we said in the article on Street Security, it is NEVER a good idea to put items on the ground in public locales.
This goes for game prizes as well
even prizes in boxes.

If you go to a casino in RW, you do not put your chips or money on the ground for anyone to take
so why do it in Kymer?

If game hosts put prize boxes on the ground
there is nothing to prevent someone from taking them.

You might say, "People should know they are prizes for a game!"
But some don’t know
and some just don’t care.

Why risk letting the game be ruined?
Practice good game security to prevent these problems
to ensure that the game runs smoothly.

DOING BOX PICKS AND DOOR PRIZES

These nice colored boxes are available in Vmart 1C6 for 1 token each.
Hosts can put their game prizes and/or door prizes into these boxes
and keep them in their pocket.
Then, when it is time for a player to choose a prize
the host only has to say:

"Please pick a color: yellow, orange, purple, black, white, blue, turquoise, green, pink or red"

Note to hosts: It helps to have two different chests in your pocket:
one for boxes containing prizes
and one for empty boxes
so that you don’t get them mixed up.

OPENING PRIZE BOXES

We all love to see what prize has been won
but if the winner puts his/her box on the ground to open it
there is nothing to prevent someone from taking the box.

That is why it is important to ask players
to open prize boxes in their pockets
and then take the prize out
and show it to everyone.

If the player’s pockets are full
the host will be happy to open the box for the player
and hand their prize to them.

DISRUPTIVE PLAYERS IN GAME LOCALES

Remember, all avatars have equal rights to be in public locales.

No one *has to* ghost for winners or leave the locale to make room for other players.

But when someone is disrupting a game and keeping it from being played,
hosts are encouraged to page an Acolyte to remove them.

Hosts are also encouraged to page an Acolyte
and ask them to remove avatars who are parked in the locale
where a scheduled weekly or event game is being played

GAME SECURITY INSIDE TURFS

Some games have to be played inside of turfs because they require items to be glued down
or they require only a limited amount of avatars on the ground.

Private turfs provide much more control for the hosts because hosts can limit:
the number of avatars allowed
the number of ghosts allowed
the number of players on the ground

room_access.gif (5420 bytes)
Here the game room is limited to 3 avatars and 2 ghosts.

Remember, when you invite players into your turf to play a game
you are inviting not only friends, but strangers.
You can’t expect everyone to treat you as your friends do.
Be smart, and prevent problems before they start!

HANDING OUT PRIZES IN A GAME TURF

If you let your winners choose their prize
you may have the prizes glued down in your game turf not in boxes.

But if you unglue the prizes with the players still in the room
there is nothing to prevent someone from taking a prize
in that moment between clicking on "unglue" and "get"

The safest way is to ask the players to ghost before you hand out prizes.
Change the number of avatars allowed in the room to zero.
Unglue the prizes and put them in your pocket.
Change the number of avatars allowed in the room back to ten
and ask the winners to unghost.
Then hand each prize to each winner.

DOING A BOX PICK A GAME TURF

Do not glue your prize boxes down in the same room that your game is played in.
There is nothing to prevent someone from opening a box,
taking a prize and leaving the turf.

Instead, make a separate prize room for your boxes
and set the number of avatars allowed in that room to zero

Have the winners follow you to the prize room as ghosts.
Have each winner ESP you their choice of box.
Open the box, take out the prize, and put it in your pocket.
When you have done this for all the winners
ask the ghosts to follow you back to the game room
and hand each prize to each winner.

Or, if you don’t have a separate prize room
you can always keep the colored boxes in a chest in your pocket
and distribute them just like you would in a public locale.

BOOTING SOMEONE FROM YOUR GAME TURF

The "Remove guest" option is important for game hosts to know how to use.
The host is in control, and can boot disruptive players or unwanted guests whenever necessary.

room.gif (3737 bytes)
Choose "Remove guest" and type in the name of the disruptive player.
Only "Remove all guests" in cases of extreme emergency (your players won't like it much :-)

Another thing you may want to remember is
If you have the "Remove guests when all owners exit" option checked,
your players will be booted from the game turf if you crash.

ADDING PEOPLE TO YOUR GAME TURF LEASE

Your game turf is no different than any other turf in this respect.

Be CAREFUL who you add to your lease.

Whoever you add to your turf lease has access to your game prizes.

Nothing ruins a friendship faster than missing game prizes in a shared turf.

If you want to add someone to your lease, just be aware that you are taking a risk.

Take RESPONSIBILITY for your game and prizes.
These simple precautions will ensure that everyone has fun at your game!
