Baby Pooh!

Hi! My name is Pooh.   When this picture was taken, I was somewhere between two and three weeks old!   Something had happened to my Mama and I was all alone, out in the dark and the cold when a pair of hands found me.  They wrapped me up in a towel and since they couldn't find my Mama, they took me to their home.  It had been a while since I had eaten, so I was  very hungry but these people took good care of me.  They dried my tears, warmed me up and gave me food.  At first, my little voice was squeaky from crying for so long and my tummy couldn't take much food, but with time it got better.

I only weighed 10 ounces when this picture was taken two and a half weeks ago, but I am bigger now.  That first night my new family called a veterinarian to find out what they should feed me.  They then mixed up this yummy stuff for me to drink!  My mouth was very small and they fed me with a strange glass thing that I think they called an eye dropper.  It gave me food but was nothing like my Mama.   A couple of days later they tried a big plastic thing that they called a syringe (without the needle).  It was a little easier to deal with but I still didn't like it.  Then they found a bottle for baby kittens (that's me!) and it was much better but I still had a hard time keeping the thing in my mouth.  Finally they found another bottle that was perfect!  They said the nipple was better and boy were they right!  I really love my new bottle!  Not only do I get my food but my need to suckle is also satisfied!

I have settled into my new life quite nicely now and spend most of my time investigating all of the interesting things around here, eating, sleeping, playing and of course being held!  I have learned so many new things!  Of course at first my legs were very wobbly (mostly from lack of food) but within a couple of days, they were as good as any other kittens legs!  Now they can go a mile a minute (especially when I see something or someone that I want to get to really fast).

I will never forget when I discovered how to sit!  I was walking along when suddenly my back legs became tangled and instead of falling over, I sat!  Of course I was not too sure just how I had done that so I had to try a few more times in order to figure it out!

I am still in the process of perfecting my ability to pounce though.   Wow, the first time I did that it was absolutely great!  My little legs both came up off the floor at once (so it was only half an inch... but hey, I am a tiny kitten you know!) and then down they came on a little leaf that had been on someone's shoe!   Well, that was so much fun I had to try it again!  I did kind of misjudge it on the second try though... got a bit ambitious and tried to rise up to a whole inch off of the floor.  I bet you can guess what happened... yep, I lost my balance and went tumbling backwards!  But never fear, I don't give up that easily.  I have kept practicing and am getting pretty good at it now!

Oh, I have to tell you of a new discovery that I am very proud of.   The other day (about a week ago), I was trying very hard to look behind myself when I spotted the most interesting black thing.  I tried to turn further to get a better look, but it disappeared.  Well, since I didn't see it there anymore, I headed off to see if my bright pink ball was where I left it.  A few days later though, I saw that black thing again.  This time I turned just fast enough to get a better glimpse of it.  It is long and furry like I am.  In fact, it is the same color that I am.   The end of it almost comes to a point.  But when I reached out to grab it, it disappeared again.  I think my family has seen it too because they refer to this thing as a "tail", but I haven't seen it well enough to know what it is quite yet.  I am definitely keeping my eyes open for it though and will let you know what I discover.

I had a rather interesting experience last week.  I wasn't feeling very well and I kept having a problem with one of my eyes... icky stuff kept coming out of it and it got hard to keep it open.  Well, my family got very concerned and took me to a veterinarian (which means a nice man that pets you and pokes you and puts stuff in your eye).  That man gave my family some pink stuff that I get to have twice a day (yum, yum... I really look forward to that) and some stuff to put into my eye to protect it from that icky stuff (don't really appreciate that being put into my eye, but my eye sure does feel better now).  He also told them that I had an upper respiratory infection but that I should be better really soon.  You know, that man was right!   I was much better the next day and I feel really great now!  The man also weighed me and said that I weigh 14 ounces now!  Said I am still a little behind on my growth but that I am progressing very nicely!

One of my favorite things to do is to climb the trees that come into my play area!  I think they are somehow connected to my family since the hands and faces are up above the trees.  Sometimes the trees are different colors.  One of my family said that it is safest to wear jeans cause they work best with my claws (what ever that means).

Here are some more of my pictures:

Tiny Pooh!

This is me and one of my family's hands!   I love to be held (and fingers are great to chew on don't you know!)!

Philosophical Pooh!

Here I am in a philosophical mood, pondering the meaning of life.

It's the cat's meow!

Ahhh, what a life!  It's the cats meow!

Hey, that tickles!

Hey, that tickles!

Huh?

What is that strange thing in front of your face?  A camera? What is that?

Pooh was hiding!

Here I am coming out of one of my most favorite hiding places!

Pooh playing ball!

The ball is really pink (although it looks orange here) and my people say it is the size of a quarter... so you can see how big I really am!  I am much bigger than a quarter (what ever that is)!

See how big I am?

How can you resist reaching down and picking me up when I am wearing one of my most winsome looks?

Winsome Pooh!

Doesn't this pink towel show off my velvety black in a most magnificent manner?
