Was This A Ghost?

This is the first time that I have visited your site. I find stories about the paranormal very interesting, although I'm not sure if I am a complete believer. I want to share an experience with you that I'm not sure qualifies as a ghostly experience, but I have no other explanation for it.

I had my first experience when I was about 14 years-old. This happened in my room at my parents home. One night I woke up for no apparent reason and I couldn't get back to sleep. As I was laying there I suddenly heard this buzzing sound, that was kind of like electicity. Then I felt this tingling sensation start in my feet and work it's way up my body very quickly. When it reached my head the buzzing sound was the only sound I could hear and it felt like an electrical current was running through my body. I felt like my limbs were so heavy that I couldn't hardly move them. Then it felt like someone was touching me even though there was no-one in the room. Pretty soon it felt like someone was laying on top of me and holding me down. After that I just kind-of blacked out. I woke up the next morning very frightened and bewildered. I tried to tell myself that I was just dreaming.

I had this happen to me three or four more times. Every time I heard the electrical buzzing before it happened. One time I actually woke up while it was happening to me. I was walking in my sleep, but my body felt very sluggish and heavy. I felt like I was being held against the wall and I was talking to someone. It was like I didn't really have control of my body or mind. I was aware that I was speaking, but I didn't have control of what was coming out of my mouth.

My brother-in-law had a similar experience one night after he was playing with an Ouija board. He heard a buzzing sound and many voices whispering things that he couldn't understand. Suddenly he felt as if someone was holding him down and sitting on his chest. He couldn't move at all.

The reason I am writing to you is because I want to know if you have recieved any stories similar to mine, or if you can offer an explanation. I have also had other strange things happen to me in that room, but this is the one that frightened me the most.

(Note: After receiving her letter, I wrote back and asked a few questions.  She provided the following information.)

I can't remember exactly what my brother-in-law said happened, but I do know that he did have some kind of experience with the ouijia board. He doesn't live in that house anymore, but he did say that he would hear noises at night and sometimes whispering. His friend stayed the night there one time and said that he couldn't get to sleep because he kept hearing things and he was very frightened.

As far as I can remember, I have never actually played with an ouijia board myself, but I have been present when others played. I was always too afraid of what might happen.

I used to stay up late and read alot, and the light in my room would suddenly click off by itself. Some-times there would just be this overwhelming feeling that someone was sitting next to you or standing right beside you. It always made the hairs stand up on my body and it made me feel very uneasy. When I was seventeen I had this really weird dream that I was driving down this road and it was a beautiful sunny day and I was in a really good mood. Suddenly the sky became dark, it started to snow, and the wind started blowing really hard. Up ahead of me I saw to figures in dark colored hooded cloaks. One was tall and the other was the size of a child. As I got closer to them I started to get very uneasy and then I heard the buzzing noise and felt the electricity run through my body. At this point in my dream I panicked and started screaming NO, and then I woke up. Even when I woke up I still heard the buzzing, but it was very soft, like it was starting to fade away. I just really felt that what happened to me before was starting to happen again and that I some-how stopped it. I never had that experience ever again after that.

I got married and had a child very young, so when my son was born my husband and I lived with my Mom and Dad for a couple of months. My room is on the second floor right at the top of the open stairway. One night I was walking past the stairs and I stopped to listen to see if my son was awake. While I was standing there I saw this large shadow move across the doorway. At first I thought that my husband had gotten up with my son, so I walked up-stairs to check on them and they were both sound asleep. This frightened me badly because I thought that if there was something up their I was afraid it would hurt my child. The next day I told my husband about it and he said that sometimes when he would be laying there trying to go to sleep, he would hear the floor creaking like someone was walking toward the bed, but he would open his eyes and there would be no-one there. He said that he felt like there was someone standing right in front of the bed staring at him. He would be so scared that he would just freeze and hope that the feeling would just go away.

We live in a new home now and I have never had any other experiences like these since. I really don't know what to think about it. Part of me wants to believe in ghosts but the other part of me is too afraid to accept the possibility that they exist. I hope that this information helps. Hopefully you will recieve other stories like mine and maybe I will be able to understand what happened to me.

(Note: If you have experienced anything like this, I hope you will be willing to share your experiences.  Both H. J. and I would like to understand this phenomena a bit more.)
