A Ghostly Nurse
I myself have never seen a ghost, or at least, if I did, then I have no
memory of it. However, I do have ghost story that involves me directly.
Whilst I now live in London, my family home and the place where I grew up is in a village
in the County of Wiltshire in the West of England. The house, which my parents still live
in, is called The Old Rectory and is, for obvious reasons, situated next door to a Norman
church. The house itself has been built up over different periods starting in mediaeval
times. It is a grade II listed building.
Anyway, shortly after I was born in 1975, there was a whooping cough epidemic in the UK. I think that this came about because the newspapers had run a scare story about deaths resulting from the vaccine. Consequently thousands of mothers chose not to vaccinate their babies and, as a result, many more died than would have done with the vaccine. I was one of the babies to contract the disease.
Apparently, during my illness, members of my family, probably worried sick
themselves, used to see a lady dressed in blue sitting over my cot as though nursing me. I
am told that this happened on more than one occasion. I am also told that the same woman
has been seen by a few people in different parts of the house whilst holding a ghost baby.
I don't believe that there have been any sightings in many years of either this or any of
the other ghosts that others have claimed to see in the house. Incidentally, there have
been no babies or children living in the house for many years.
