Hello Human! I am Elbee.
There seems to be a misconception held by many of your kind. It seems that most humans are under the impression that Dragons are solitary creatures that don't take to non-dragons. Hopefully, what the others have told you today have gotten you to understand that we can and do become friends with humans at times. I also want you to know that we can become friends with many other creatures as well.
The picture above is one of my favorite ones because it shows me with one of my favorite friends... Lance. This was taken awhile ago, while he was still a puppy. One day, I was wandering around this very lake when I noticed him following me, playing with my tail. It didn't take long for us to become friends. I would venture into his territory on a frequent basis and we would spend hours running around and generally having a great time! Of course for the first few months, he stayed completely fascinated by my tail! This was one instance that I was very glad that I don't have the spikes or bony plates that some dragons do. Luckily, I have nothing sharp on my tail that could hurt him.
Another thing that most humans don't know is that Dragons, being the magical creatures that we are, can communicate with just about any other creature. It isn't really a talent since all Dragons have the ability. Maybe you could call it a special knack that we have. There are only a few creatures that I have run into that I couldn't communicate with... or perhaps it was that they didn't want to communicate.
There are a few creatures that Dragons, as a whole, have a special affinity for. Wolves are one of them. Maybe it is because we are both so misunderstood. There is something very special about wolves. They seem to embody the wildness of nature in their beauty. They are also very wise and knowledgeable creatures. Another thing we have in common! They are excellent teachers! They watch in silence and take in everything they see, hear, smell and sense.
Cats are another creature that we befriend very easily. Many wonder about this, cats can seem so allusive and independent (which they are). They are also very fun loving and curious. These are also traits carried by most dragons which probably helps to explain the bond that is easily formed between our two species. Due to their curiosity and needing to understand and investigate everything they come across, they are also exceptionally smart creatures. I think some are put off by their sense of independence, almost considering it arrogance. How misunderstood they are! They honor their sense of self and their needs. Their mannerisms speak a wisdom that says accept me for who I am, not who you want me to be.
Most dragons love philosophical discussions. This is another reason we like to hang out with wolves and cats. Both of them are extremely philosophical. Many humans can be as well. I think Diamond told you how highly we regard the heart of an individual (be they dragon, human, wolf, cat or other creature) and wisdom. Philosophy is the combination of the two.
Dragons are very social creatures amongst themselves as well. We do like to go off from time to time and seek out the silence, beauty and wisdom of nature but for the most part we are not solitary creatures. We form very close knit friendships and the bond between family members is usually very strong. We honor our quiet times but rejoice in our gatherings. When dragons get together, you can be sure to find hearty laughter, stories being told, songs being sung, games being played and in general, many of the same activities that humans do. Of course, most of us have never quite acquired a taste for alcohol... flying under the influence just doesn't work well!
Sheep? No, we don't seem to get along very well with them. They don't think very clearly and we usually don't make friends with those that we eat. Turkeys are another creature that we simply avoid. They are not known for their intelligence and they taste good. Cows (another favorite food) are more interested in eating than they are in carrying on much conversation. I did become good friends with one cow however. She didn't talk much, but her heart shined so strongly that words were almost not needed. I gave up beef after meeting her!
Don't get me wrong, our friendships are not determined by intelligence. Mockingbirds for example. They jabber incessantly and attack anything they want to (although that usually doesn't include dragons). Though they are not overly bright, they can be fun traveling companions. You can't always believe everything they say though since they have a tendency to simply repeat gossip that they hear. I have a couple of them that I call friends. They tell excellent stories and I enjoy listening to them!
I hear that humans don't hold crows in a very good light. That's a shame! Perhaps if you could understand their language, you would feel differently about them. They don't go in for gossip but they usually know exactly what is going on everywhere. I guess you could call them the newscasters of the forest and wild spaces. They can communicate with each other over great distances. They have the ability to understand the language of the wind. If you ever need to know anything at all, ask a crow. If they don't know, they can certainly find out the information for you!
Each creature is unique, each offering their own lessons and philosophies on life (whether they care to share them or not). Sometimes, their silence speaks more than their words would.
